| CAPE
KIDNAPPERS is a beautiful part of New Zealand. The
fossil tree site is about half way. |
| |
 |
| The
large blocks in foreground are the result of dangerous
cliff falls. |
 |
| CLIFF
FALL REVEALS TREES |
| Each
year winter freeze / or storm brings new cliff falls
which expose new trees and remove old ones |
 |
| POLYSTRATE
TREE |
| This
new tree still retains at least one forked branch
embedded I stratified layers. Trees in growth position
destroy strata so it can easily be checked if it
grew in situe. |
| |
 |
| TREE
ROOTS ARE BROKEN |
| When
the trees are accessible, the exposed tree roost
are mostly broken pointing to growth elsewhere and
flood transport to this site followed by rapid burial.
Most trees are pine so the burial occurred before
the trees could rot-not a long time. |

| CLOSED
FOSSIL CLAMS FOUND BELOW TREE BED |
| This
closed clam fossil also indicates the whole area
formed rapidly - the vast ages for strata formation
in most peoples heads is not derived from the evidence
at all. |
 |
| THE
PRESENCE OF CLOSED FOSSIL MUSSEL shells is not only
no help to evolution as such mussels can be proved
to have produced their own kind regardless of how
old you think the cliffs are, but the fact they
are closed tells us they were buried live as they
open when they die it was rapid. |

| NEARBY
CLIFF WHERE GIANT SWAN FOSSIL WAS FOUND some 10
years ago, by John Mackay which was taken to the
main Auckland Museum for positive identification.
This fossil is now in one of our museum displays
we loan to schools. Dinosaurs were not the only
Giants. |

 |
| FALLEN
TREES IN SEA |
| This
block of conglomerate had fallen from the cliff
and two preserved logs are visible. The pebble size
tells of fast water movement. |
