UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON Researcher Anson Mackay, of the Environmental Change Research Centre, has constructed the most accurate high-resolution temperature record of Siberia (Lake Baikal ) over the past 800,000 years. It clearly demonstrates the region has often been considerably warmer than at present. The most recent data shows Siberia first began warming around 250 years ago – well before the industrial revolution, and its resulting greenhouse gas emissions could have been a factor. NINE INCONVENIENT UNTRUTHS, rules High Court judge about Al Gore’s film, according to reports in Times Online 11 Oct 2007. British High Court judge Sir Michael Burton identified nine incorrect claims in Al Gore’s film on global warming; “An inconvenient truth” in his judgement on a challenge brought by a school governor over whether the film should be shown in British schools. The School governor described Gore's film as "a political shock-you-mentary".

The Judge said that the film should be allowed to be shown, but it should be accompanied by guidance notes that balance Gore’s “one sided” views. The false claims listed in the judgement are: Sea levels could rise by 20ft (6m) in the near future; Pacific atolls have been evacuated; the drying out of Lake Chad, the decrease in snow on Mt Kilimanjaro and Hurricane Katrina and coral bleaching are the result of man-made global warming; the Gulf Stream would stop flowing; changes in carbon dioxide levels and global temperatures were an exact fit for the past 65,000 years; and polar bears are drowning due to lack of ice in the Arctic. It is interesting that most of the media reports centred on the fact that the High Court allowed the film to be shown in schools, not on the scientific errors or on the new guideline recommended by the judge. If creationists made a film with that many false claims, there would (quite rightly) be howls of outrage, but Al Gore gets an Oscar and a Nobel Prize. There is no doubt that climate change is real, but it has been real for thousands of years, and will continue until the end of the world, just a God told Noah: "As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.". TAIN SCOTLAND records one of the coldest summers just gone past – as one green house tomato grower lamented to John Mackay in October, over his flavourless crop. With temperature rarely up to 20 Celsius and so much rain, crops were low yield and tasteless. The cause – well we did hear the BBC commentator warn last year(with some scepticism in his voice)that the UK would get colder due to global warming resulting in shifting ocean currents – but I am sure even he didn’t expect it this fast. But since it was also snowing in the Australia Summer last Christmas and frost killed the potatoes in far north tropical Queensland in July, perhaps it has nothing to do with any global warming scenarios at all?

ED.COM. The question that should be asked is “what does a movie on the weather have to do with peace? Forgive our untrusting suggestion “that a global problem need a global solution which needs a global government”, but poluticians have tried for years to pull this off and we suspect they see this as their next best opportunity. 5. Gore: a sea-level rise of up to 20 feet would be caused by melting of ice in either West Antarctica or Greenland "in the near future".

Judge: this was "distinctly alarmist" and it was common ground that if Greenland's ice melted it would release this amount of water - "but only after, and over, millennia".

6.Gore: Low lying inhabited Pacific atolls "are being inundated because of anthropogenic global warming"

Judge: there is no evidence of any evacuation occurring

7 Gore: global warming is "shutting down the ocean conveyor" - the process by which the gulf stream is carried over the north Atlantic to western Europe.

Judge: according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, it was "very unlikely" that the conveyor would shut down in the future, though it might slow down

8·Gore: ascribed Hurricane Katrina to global warming,

Judge: there was "insufficient evidence to show that"

9· Gore: coral reefs all over the world were bleaching because of global warming and other factors.

Judge: separating the impacts of stresses due to climate change from other stresses, such as over-fishing, and pollution, was difficult
