William Jennings Bryan College fire (Sunday February 6th) caused more than $US10 million damage to the administration building (Dayton, Tennessee USA). "Creationist" Kurt Wise's entire library, 20 years worth of slides, notes, personal correspondence, books, and publications were destroyed. No other campus buildings were burned. Historical documents from the 1925 Scopes Monkey Trial were saved, although an early edition of Darwin's "Origin of the Species" was lost. The school is named after the politician orator, who argued at the Scopes trial in support of Tennessee's ban on teaching evolution in public schools. (Ref. Wise, Scopes. fire)
